it was bittersweet to be back serving as a medicine cat, to say the least. half of blueberry almost missed the cosy warmth of the warriors den, and the sleek pelts of her denmates pressed comfortingly close; but there was also something incredibly homely about her old nest within the familiar split rock, reeking strongly of chewed herbs and fresh berries organized quaintly within storage. The moss felt comfortable beneath her smooth, clean pelt, and spots of sunlight splashed upon the cool stone floor, wavering about like water in the shadows.
wakening to the waning dawn, blueberry swallowed a yawn and arched her back in a luxurious stretch. her muscles rippled beneath her fine blue-grey pelt, and the jagged scars on her shoulder stretched with her long body. she looked every bit of a warrior, from her heavy build to her thick-set fur, and yet she seemed to carry the elegance and grace of a medicine cat also.
her green gaze roamed their rocky den, falling upon the bundle of fur curled neatly beside her. the small apprentice's sides rose and fell with every breath, and warmth swelled blueberry's heart to twice its size. though thunderclan had lost sandfeather and stormbird, they'd also gained a cat that starclan had blessed themselves.
but as quaint and innocent as she looked peacefully snoozing, today was not the day for sleeping in. she gave a gentle prod in peachpaw's fur, her voice unusually soft as she spoke. "peachpaw? wake up. it's time for your first official day as my apprentice."
those words swelled her heart even more. indeed, even if it was a pain in the butt, there were certain aspects to this life that she'd always adore. helping her clan in a way only she and a select few knew how was one of them. these next few moons wouldn't be too bad. in fact, dare say she'd rather enjoy herself. she was already fond of the little apprentice - who wouldn't be? with her doe eyed stare and chippy optimism, it was hard not to be stricken by her adorable personality. but cute looks don't get you far, she reminded herself. it's true she displays qualities of a medicine cat, but how will her skill be? i suppose that's something we'll find out today.
